I just spent two friggin’ hours going over a certain east-side nursing home’s contract. The language was horrible and there were traps and pitfalls on just about every page. They were written with the seemingly sole intention of transferring the costs of the nursing home from the person who is being admitted to the family member or friend helping with the admission.

After X-ing out line after line on page after page I would put it down. A half hour later I would read it and find even more to X out.

The clear, shining purpose of the language was not to admit the loved one. The purpose was to transfer cash from others in the family.

GET AN ATTORNEY.

Should they disagree, you have the wrong nursing home or assisted living center. GET OUT. GET OUT NOW.

Nursing home deserve to get paid for their services. That is not the issue. But when they take advantage of these family members they deserve to be called out and corrected.
